The story is woven around a young woman named Aseema played by Bollywood's pretty girl Gracy Singh of the Aamir Khan starrer 'Lagaan' fame. Being a strong woman, Aseema turns her back to a failed marriage, takes up a job, and decides to spend her life bringing up her daughter. During this crusade, she falls in love with the friendly neighborhood doctor played by Aseem Merchant. However, he declines the proposal with a whole lot of mothballed talk about `parityag' and `tyag'.
The rest of the film is mostly drowned in copious tears as both the protagonists go their separate ways. The film is Assema's journey of tough life. She is a strong woman and displays the strength of her character by sheer resilience and conviction. She establishes her identity in society single-handedly. The movie's title 'Assema' indicates that there is no boundary for love; it's beyond frontiers. The USP of the movie is, therefore, a kind of love that has seldom been explored in the past. The movie aims at redefining relationships and thus unadulterated love.
